
CAMP: Comic Arts Maine Portland
Free and Open to the public!
CAMP is a NEW one-day comic arts festival taking place at the Portland Public Library on April 5th, 2025! At CAMP we will celebrate all things comics. There will be exhibitors selling comics, graphic novels, and zines, and hands-on comic arts workshops, and panels featuring comics professionals. CAMP will correspond with a comics exhibit in the Lewis Gallery, celebrating First Friday April 4th, the night before the show. We are truly passionate about comic arts and graphic novels and we cannot wait to celebrate this incredible medium in Portland, Maine!

Reading Round Up
Reading Round Up is an annual conference that brings together those serving youth in a Maine school or public library. The day long event includes workshop sessions, Cream of the Crop review of best books, vendors, and more!

This event is co-hosted by Back Cove Books and Portland Public Library.

Banned Books Postcard Writing Party with AABB and Back Cove Books
Kick-off Banned Books Week (September 22nd - 28th) by joining local members of Authors Against Book Bans at Back Cove Books where we will be hosting a postcard writing party in support of all the local librarians, school leaders and legislators who are working hard to keep books in the hands of Maine’s readers. Includes a banned book storytime.

TRYOUTS Launch @ Back Cove Books
Join us for a fun-filled day celebrating the launch of Sarah Sax's new graphic novel,Tryouts! Sarah will be joined in conversation by Lincoln Peirce, author of the acclaimed Big Nate series and comic strip.

Junior Reading League: TRYOUTS with Sarah Sax
Come meet author Sarah Sax at our May Junior Reading League meeting and learn about her brand-new graphic novel, Tryouts. Follow protagonist Alexandra, Al for short, in her quest to shatter stereotypes and join the boys-only baseball team. Join us as we explore themes of determination, friendship, and the love of the game.

What is it like to be a debut author and/or illustrator? Presenters will discuss the ups and downs of the creative process, impostor syndrome, etc., as well as things they expected or didn’t expect.

1:30pm Drawing Demo with Sarah Sax & Ray Xu

2:30pm Fact or Fiction Panel with Sarah Sax, Dan Nott, Jason Viola & Matt Tavares

Presenters will compare and contrast writing true non-fiction with historical fiction, talk about their processes and most recent books, and then host a fact or fiction guessing game with the audience.
